Ryan Mcginley Photographer Extrodinare

Ryan McGinley started out his life as a little known photographer from New Jersey USA, the same state that supplied the world with the likes of John Travolta, Bruce Willis, Jon Bon Jovi, Anne Hathaway and funnily enough, Akon.
Much like his famous neighbours Ryan has risen up in the world, having firmly established himself as a prominent and influential photographer in the art community (he was the youngest artist ever to have a solo show at the Whitney Museum of American Art at just twenty-four years old)
Best known for his captivating portrayals of the human form in it's most bare elements, McGinley takes months-long road trips throughout America each summer and photographs nude models in awesome caverns alight with bright, electrifying colours. His photos subtly distort the mind's perception and through a liberating kaleidoscope of colour McGinley succeeds in creating alternative psychedelic images that pry within the playground of the mind's imagination. It's almost as though you're tripping.

In his first UK exhibition McGinley's show 'Moonmilk' is exhibiting at the Alison Jacques gallery up to the 8th of October 2009. Entrance is free, it's barely a five minute walk from the Oxford Circus tube station, so if you've not got a pound-fifty to spare (and come on, you know you do) there is really no reason why you shouldn't go.
Little Tip; there's a charming little pub round the corner, adjacent to HMV off Oxford Street, perfect for a light lunch and a cigarette outside.
