I Want Alice Dellal

If Topshop sold ‘Alice Dellal in A Bag’ I would be the first to buy it.
There is no limit on how cool or edgy this Brazilian model/socialite will become. At first we loved her for her rebellious outcry against the private-school educated persona; with a simple razor she was able to inspire thousands of teenage girls across London to shave their heads too and basically, in one phrase, ‘fuck it.’
Thus, an unlikely heroine was born from the tattoos and piercings, the ripped fishnet tights and hardcore combat boots. Somehow we came to love and adore the girl who looked as though she had jumped a homeless man and stolen all his clothes.

Personally, I believe London is under a wave of Dellal-fever. Forget swine-flu or cervical cancer, the real thing that parents ought to protect their daughters against is the reckless influence of Alice Dellal and her group of anarchists. More often than not we ordinary folk of day jobs and school priorities open up the paper to reveal a glossy snapshot of Pixie Geldof, Alice and Daisy Lowe stumbling out of a nightclub, knuckleduster and cigarette in hand.
Truth-be-told none of these girls are classically ‘beautiful’ or extensively ‘brainy’ but that’s exactly the reason why we love them so, they voice the crazy thoughts and fearless rebellion that’s inside each and every one of us….but we’re all to scared to let out.

Perpetually dressed as though she's going to a rave, Dellal counts Mick Jagger and Mario Testino as her godfathers, she's the daughter of a Brazilian model and a British millionaire, her brother is currently dating Grace Kelly’s granddaughter Charlotte Casiraghi, whilst Alice herself has posed for French Vogue and is the face for Pussy Glamore lingerie. I almost hate her.
Designers are even now starting to copy the model's style secrets, with both Alexander Wang and Proenza Schouler exhibiting Dellal-fever in their collections at New York Fashion week.
Hailed prophetically as the next ‘Kate Moss,' she even got her boobs out during London Fashion Week cat walking for ‘House of Blue Eyes.’
All I can say is, this girl’s got nerve, and her boyfriend is hot too.

Away We Go....

I’m going to be honest here, when I saw the advertisements for ‘Away We Go’ my heart didn’t leap out of my chest in a furious fit of passion, the scrapbook-like font and squiggled handwriting worthy of a seven year old slightly diminished my reasons for seeing this new film. I liked Juno, partly because of her infatuation with Sunny Delight and her extensive vocabulary of quotes like ‘For shiz up the spout’ and ‘Friggin sweet,’ (in my opinion we could all integrate a bit of ‘Juno’ into our day to day conversations, life would be just that extra bit sweeter) But as regards to indie films in general I shan’t profess myself to be a die-hard fan.

Alas I was cleverly manipulated by a close friend (whose name I shall contain a secret) who enticed me with the thought of lunch in the park and a film. It ended up incidentally as us eating Maccy-D’s on a park bench, but hey, I can’t complain.
The film was unexpectedly good; it’s one of those movies that leave you with a pleasant feeling of warmth and nostalgia, riddled with bursts of melodic music and witty jokes the characters ‘Verona’ and ‘Burt’ take you on a journey of parenthood, encountering all the extremes along the way, from the crazy hippie mom who fears the use of strollers will ‘push her children away’ emotionally, to the gentle yet naïve father who’s afraid that raising his daughter alone will leave her without the glam Hannah Montana backpack or Abercrombie wardrobe needed to be carefully selected with the helping hand of a mom.

It’s not exactly a fast-paced thriller with a gorgeous Hollywood assassin and hurling chunks of seared metal, your boyfriend will most likely fall asleep, but directed by Sam Mendes (the dude married to Kate Winslet who won all the awards for ‘Revolutionary Road’) ‘Away We Go’ will without a doubt put you in a good mood.
See it as an afternoon-evening event with someone close in a comfortable cinema (I quite like Notting Hill Gate) and it’ll satisfy.

Welcome to the Weekend

One word. YAY.
Finally, after days of slaving away at the office, pretending to work, twiddling one’s thumbs to the brink of utter boredom and beginnings of mild arthritis, the weekend has finally arrived.
At once I must quote my most favourite of all sayings regarding the three nights of freedom spanning ahead like a limitless ocean, full of adventure, opportunity and more often than not, surprises, I think I speak for the whole of London when I say, Let’s Go Out.
This weekend marks a momentous occasion in the female calendar, London Fashion Weekend, where women of all shapes and sizes (ranging from the brittle, bone-chilling anorexics to the super sized trolley-pushing bag ladies) come together to wage war in the white tents of Somerset House that I call ‘Discount Heaven’.
Room upon room of shoes, bags, clothes and accessories await you for the picking, and at drop-dread prices that mean you can afford to pay your electricity bill and still look fabulous.
Buy your tickets now at http://www.viewlondon.co.uk/london-fashion-weekend-tickets.aspx?gclid=CNyJzcOli50CFYwA4wodSWsz2Q
Prices range from £13.50 to £16.50, last day being Sunday 27th September 2009.

R-A-G-E

The Film to See

Rip yourself apart with RAGE.
For anyone interested in indie/alternative movements I present to you the newest experiment in film; RAGE has broken into a realm of it’s own chronicling the inner workings of a New York fashion house using the YouTube generation of mobile phone video technology. In this stunning debut director Sally Porter has pioneered a completely new genre of filmmaking dubbed ‘Naked Cinema,’ unveiling to the world a completely new method in exposing what has always been most precious to mankind; the truth.

Even if you’re not much interested in films, the star-studded cast is well worth seeing, including the talents of classic womaniser ‘Alfie’ (Jude Law), sleazy ‘Fargo’ hit man (Steve Buscemi), psychotic ‘Notes on a Scandal’ teacher (Judi Dench), cross-dressing comic genius (Eddie Izzard) and a newcomer freshly plucked from the fashion industry, London’s own famous red-headed china doll Lily Cole.

For the London premiere of what I’m sure will be a legendary moment in the film industry RAGE is holding an extra-special reception, the world’s first multi-venue interactive premiere where, through the mediums of skype and sms, viewers will have access to a live Q&A with the director and cast of the film.

The film will be premiering at 8 30 pm Thursday September 24th 2009, to log on and book tickets to see RAGE at one of the many participating venues go to www.ragethemovie.com.
Prices may vary, but just remember there is an once-in-a-lifetime chance here to communicate with Hollywood God Jude Law, and as all you ladies know, that’s priceless.

Ryan Mcginley Photographer Extrodinare

Ryan McGinley started out his life as a little known photographer from New Jersey USA, the same state that supplied the world with the likes of John Travolta, Bruce Willis, Jon Bon Jovi, Anne Hathaway and funnily enough, Akon.
Much like his famous neighbours Ryan has risen up in the world, having firmly established himself as a prominent and influential photographer in the art community (he was the youngest artist ever to have a solo show at the Whitney Museum of American Art at just twenty-four years old)
Best known for his captivating portrayals of the human form in it's most bare elements, McGinley takes months-long road trips throughout America each summer and photographs nude models in awesome caverns alight with bright, electrifying colours. His photos subtly distort the mind's perception and through a liberating kaleidoscope of colour McGinley succeeds in creating alternative psychedelic images that pry within the playground of the mind's imagination. It's almost as though you're tripping.

In his first UK exhibition McGinley's show 'Moonmilk' is exhibiting at the Alison Jacques gallery up to the 8th of October 2009. Entrance is free, it's barely a five minute walk from the Oxford Circus tube station, so if you've not got a pound-fifty to spare (and come on, you know you do) there is really no reason why you shouldn't go.
Little Tip; there's a charming little pub round the corner, adjacent to HMV off Oxford Street, perfect for a light lunch and a cigarette outside.

Model Scout

Model of the Moment

We're currently swept under the tide of london fashion week, if you havent seen the adverts, white tents and gaggling fashionistas then you are either blind or living under a rock.
As a tribute to this oh-so special occasion I have decided to post my model-of-the-moment. She's been in a few campaigns already, most notably Dolce&Gabbana, as well as this season's Topshop, but newcomer Imogen Morris-Clarke has much more to come.

Signed on by Storm and at just seventeen years old Imogen has catwalked for Marc by Marc Jacobs, Matthew Williamson, Alexander McQueen, Philip Lim, DKNY, Lacoste, Rodarte, Burberry, Prada, Chanel, Valentino and Miu Miu to name a few, as well as also having been featured in Italian Vogue and W magazine, globetrotting through cities such as Milan, New York, Paris and London on her jobs.

With her large blue eyes and young fresh-faced appearance Imo's future modelling endevours seem bright, she has so far been dubbed as 'one to watch'.
